We fell in love with the Plough the moment we drove into the car park.
The pub started life as a row of cottages in the mid-eighteenth century, although there has been a pub in at least some of the building for more than 150 years. Ideally situated only 10 miles south of Cambridge and 4 miles north of the beautiful market town of Saffron Walden, Great Chesterford is a picturesque village with its own railway station directly servicing both London Liverpool Street and Cambridge, with the pub itself being within a mile off junction 9 of the M11.
Our pub is traditional and the perfect stop off when exploring the surrounding East Anglia countryside attractions. Racing days at Newmarket, family days out at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, special events at Audley End House or just messing around on the river Cam, it's all just a stone's throw away!
Extended in the mid '90s and again in early 2014, The Plough has extensive facilities, large gardens with wonderful vegetables and herbs and plentiful car parking. Every day we strive to continue the excellent reputation the pub has gained over the years, offering the very best food sourced from local suppliers alongside a fantastic range of ales, gins, rum, wine and so much more.
Drop by for a drink, sample a roast, arrange a meeting or function with us; The Plough and its management and events team are here to cater for your every need and we look forward to seeing you soon.
We are extremely excited about adding our combined 40 years experience in the hospitality sector to this beautiful quintessential English pub. The Plough is already blessed with a reputation for extra-ordinary food and drinks offerings matched by the efforts of a warm welcoming and friendly staff. We look forward to bringing a wide range of events for both families and the surrounding community, taking the pub to the next level and securing its place as the central hub of Great Chesterford.
Our menus are based around the very finest locally sourced ingredients and we know you'll find everything delicious.
